Some changes are being made to hostboard, from what I can see thay all look good. We mught have some downtime, Im just keeping you guys updated, here is some FAQ about the new message board....


Q. Will I loose my board?
A. No, your board and all its posts will be moved to the new system.

Q. Will the link to my board change?
A. Unfortunatly yes as the new system's file structure is very different. We are going to try to have a redirection script so at least those links that are not changed will be sent to the main catagory screen.

Q. Will I loose all my board settings (I.E. buttons, headers, footers, etc)
A. Yes, you will need to re-decorate your board. BUT, now there is a nice upload feature for ALL the buttons & background images as well as the usual option to allow for fonts & colors.

Q. Will I loose my ID
A. No, all IDs will be moved to the new system.

Q. Will I loose my avatar?
A. Yes, but again there is now an upload feature for each user or you can select from one of the 203 avatars that are available

Q. Will I still have the same catagory as before?
A. Initialy yes. Due to system growth and making it more professionsal in appearence we have come up with a new catagory screen. When the current system is migrated all the current boards will temporarily reside under what is being called "The Wild Card Community" We will then ask users to move their board to an area within the new structure (yes moderators can now change catagories of their forums if they wish) We will move the forums that have the same catagory as before so this only applies to forums that are outside of the new design. We do have the ability to add more catagories and will consider special requests to add them.

Q. What are some of the new features?

Q. How long will the system be off line during the transtition?
A. We are anticipating 1 full day where Hostboard will be unavailable. There are a team of people involved that are very familiar with the process.

Q. When do you think this will take place?
A. Right now as of 12/29/01 we are anticipating the second or third week of Jan. This is NOT set in stone and may change as there is still some work that needs to be preformed. Once we firm the date it will be made available here as well as a global announcement.

Q. Will the system be faster?
A. We sure hope so! With the ability for users to upload avatars (no more outside links) as well as the ability to manage linked images within forums we believe we have finally addressed the bandwidth saturation issue.

Q. What about hardware resources?
A. The Hostboard server was initialy designed to handle what ever might be thrown at it. Multi processor, lots of RAM, plenty of drive space. The server is/was never an issue. All access issues were bandwidth related.

Q. Will Hostboard remain on the UBB platform?
A. Yes. We have looked at other platforms but feel the look and feel were not the same and duplicating it would require alot more development.

Q. Who is handeling the programming?
A. Hostboard has enlisted a developer who we believe has done an amazing job at programming as well as helping with layout. He has agreed to remain on board with future development as well as ironing out any issues that the beta team missed.

Q. What about web pages?
A. Thanx to Concorde, a friend of his has made some recommendationds and changes and has given Hostboard's web pages a whole new look.

Q. What about the admins are they still around?
A. Yep, we are all here. Most likely just taking a holiday breather so maybe not posting as much. The new Hostboard though will remove many of the daily work necessary for it to run allowing us to concentrate more on answering e-mails and requests.
